Client Guide to our Consultation Fees

When we examine your pet for any condition* for the first time we charge a Consultation Fee A (initial). If we request a second examination for the same condition, then a Consultation Fee B (subsequent) is charged. All subsequent consultations for the same condition are charged a Consultation Fee B (subsequent). This does not apply to Saturday consulting or when a pet is examined without a prior appointment. On Saturday you will be charged a Consultation Fee (Saturday). A higher fee is charged if you do not have an appointment or require to be double booked with someone else. The consultation fees are shown in the table below.

The allocation of an appointment is the basis of a chargeable fee but if two animals are presented at the same consultation, two fees will be applied. The time allocated is not directly relevant unless there is a time overrun when the fee applied will be time dependent.

If you present two pets with the same condition, we will charge one pet a lower fee. This does not apply on Saturdays or/and if you arrive without an appointment at any time, when both pets will have the higher fee applied. If you present two pets with different conditions the fees will apply individually.

If we ask you to bring your pet back to simply have more treatment, (eg if you cannot manage to administer tablets, or for a drug which can only be given by injection) then the Consultation Fees are discretionary. However, if a clinical examination is required, or requested, then we will apply the cascade.

Repeat prescription examinations

We charge a Consultation Fee Repeat Prescription to examine your pet for a repeat prescription. For us to legally prescribe drugs, we must be able to prove that your pet is "under our care". It has been agreed that to qualify, we must examine your pet at least every 6 months, for any condition. This is logical, as we must keep up to date with the health status of our patients. If your pet has an annual booster vaccination (which it should!), then you are required to have only one additional consultation per year to qualify for a repeat prescription.

Drug Prices

The prices of all our drugs were reduced in January 2006. This reduction varies according to the drug, but is generally by around 35%-50%. Our prices are in line with internet pharmacies. This is despite the annual round of price increases by drug companies. The price of a vaccination is inclusive of a Consultation Fee. Any price rise in vaccinations is a reflection of the Consultation Fee and vaccine prices. There have been NO VACCINE PRICE RISES SINCE Jan 2006!

Small Pets

The cascade also applies to small pets. However, the fees are scaled down to different levels depending on the species.

Flea Treatment Examinations

Most of the flea treatments we prescribe are classified as Prescription Only Medicines (POM-V) except for Frontline Spot On. This means that the pet must be "under our care" to allow us to prescribe these products. We have decided that the interval between examinations (for any condition) to allow us to re-prescribe flea treatments is one year. We do not charge for this consultation, unless you ask us to examine your pet for any other reason or to discuss a condition*. You will then be charged a Consultation Fee A (initial).

*Any condition

We charge the same fee for all conditions, no matter their severity or otherwise. We have a duty to be aware of the health status of your pet. We must examine the pet to determine this. We may have to perform surgery for the condition, or prescribe treatment - we cannot do this without an understanding of the health status. This is why all conditions are charged the same.
